The Prospectors story begins with the health-conscious, entrepreneurial vision of two childhood friends from Grand Rapids, Mich.

As a Type-1 diabetic, David Wentworth always struggled to find refreshing, caffeinated beverages without high amounts of sugar or other sweeteners. After reading about an emerging method of making iced coffee during one hot summer in 2014, he started experimenting with making cold brew coffee at home.

This newfound passion for homebrewing and the growing cold brew trend didn’t go unnoticed by his longtime friend Eric Pearson. While on a business trip in California, Eric encountered numerous cold brews available on the West Coast. He quickly gathered a box of samples and shipped them overnight to David.

Realizing the untapped potential of cold-brew coffee in the Midwest, the two friends formed Prospectors and got right to work crafting a recipe for cold-brew coffee with A Swift Kick.

Today, Prospectors’ cold brew coffees are available at retailers across the Great Lakes and Midwest regions. Rooted in friendship and driven by hard work and innovation, Prospectors offers a unique cold coffee experience that is all-natural, locally sourced, and passionately hand-crafted in Michigan.

Our Mission

“We exist to make specialty beverages simple, reliable, and enjoyable—for both our partners and the people drinking it. From private label solutions to local collaboration, we’re committed to quality, community, and doing things the right way.”

Sustainability & Community

“Great coffee shouldn’t come at the expense of the planet or the people around us.”

We’re committed to minimizing waste and supporting the communities that support us. From how we handle leftover coffee to the partners we choose to work with, sustainability is woven into the way we do business.

Giving Coffee a Second Life
Coffee doesn’t stop being useful once it’s brewed. We repurpose our used coffee grounds whenever possible by donating them to local farms, landscaping companies, and composting programs. It’s a small step, but one that helps keep waste out of landfills and gives our coffee a second life back in the soil.

Supporting Local, Always
We believe strong local businesses make stronger communities. That’s why we prioritize working with local suppliers, roasters, and partners whenever we can. Keeping things close to home allows us to build real relationships, reduce transportation impact, and reinvest in the local economy.
